Alphington location and timeline
As part of Jemena’s battery roll out, a neighbourhood battery will be installed in Alphington in late 2024. The battery will be located at Pitcher Park (opposite 25 Parklands Ave), Alphington. It will be connected to the electricity grid and will service a local network area. It will help future-proof the grid and support the transition to renewable energy.
The location at Pitcher Park was selected in consultation with Darebin City Council. A number of factors were considered when choosing the location including electricity network constraints in the area, safety, environmental factors, and projected growth of solar installations.
The battery will be approximately 2m long and 1.5m deep. It will have around 360kWh of storage which is the same amount of energy used by around 150 homes for two hours at night.
Neighbourhood batteries meet international and national safety standards. Jemena will work with our partners to deliver and maintain the batteries under the same unconditional commitment to safety as we do for any of our network assets.

The neighbourhood battery will be installed at Pitcher Park (opposite 25 Parklands Ave), Alphington. The small square inside the circle is approximately the size of the proposed battery.
