Bellfield location and timeline
As part of Jemena’s Community battery roll out, a battery has been installed in Bellfield, Victoria. The community batteryis located at Cyril Cummins Reserve, on the corner of Wimpole Cres and Liberty Pde, Bellfield. It is connected to the electricity grid and services the local network area. It is helping to future-proof the grid and support the transition to renewable energy.
The location at Cyril Cummins Reserve was selected in consultation with Banyule City Council. A number of factors were considered when choosing the location including electricity network constraints in the area, safety, environmental factors, and projected growth of solar installations.
The community battery is approximately 4.6m long and 1.5m deep. Each battery has around 400kWh of storage which is the same amount of energy used by around 165 homes for two hours at night.
Community batteries meet international and national safety standards. Jemena works with our partners to deliver and maintain community batteries under the same unconditional commitment to safety as we do for any of our network assets.
